Location: Bancroft, Ontario

This is the perfect place for camping neophytes to embark on an outdoor love affair. The private lake location is just rustic enough, and the flush toilets and showers make camping less extreme. There are electric campsites and yurts available, so glamp away if that’s your style.

Silent Lake Provincial Park is a park located on Silent Lake in eastern Ontario near Bancroft, Ontario. It occupies an area of 14.50 km². Silent Lake is located in the Canadian Shield. Waterton Lakes National Park

1 of 10

Location: Southwest Alberta

It’s the only park in the world that can boast these three designations: a Unesco World Heritage Site, an International Peace Park, and a Biosphere reserve. Because it’s a place where several ecological regions meet, the views include rolling mountains, prairie grasses and beautiful coastlines. Stay at the Townsite Campground, where access to a range of amenities will complement regular sightings of mule deer and bighorn sheep.

Waterton Lakes National Park is a national park located in the southwest corner of Alberta, Canada, and borders Glacier National Park in Montana, USA. Waterton was Canada's fourth national park, formed in 1895 and named after Waterton Lake, in turn after the Victorian naturalist and conservationist Charles Waterton. The park contains 505 km (195 sq mi) of rugged mountains and wilderness.

Operated by Parks Canada, Waterton is open all year, but the main tourist season is during July and August. The only commercial facilities available within the park are located at the Waterton Park townsite. The park ranges in elevation from 1,290 metres (4,232 ft) at the townsite to 2,910 m (9,547 ft) at Mount Blakiston. It offers many scenic trails, including Crypt Lake trail. In 2011/2012, Waterton Lakes National Park had 400,520 visitors.

The park was the subject of a short film in 2011's National Parks Project, directed by Peter Lynch and scored by Cadence Weapon, Laura Barrett and Mark Hamilton.

American TV talkshow host David Letterman recommended the park on the Monday, 24 June 2013 episode of his nightly show. In an interview with Melissa McCarthy he told her, “when you go to Montana, you gotta' go North to Glacier ... and then dip-up into Waterton International Peace Park, it’s the Canadian part of Glacier National Park. It’s stunning.” The quotation was covered by several Canadian news outlets.

Camping on Crown Land

Ontario’s Crown land provides the opportunity for many outdoor recreational activities including camping.

Although most Crown land is available for the enjoyment of both Ontario residents and visitors, access to some Crown land may be restricted or limited. The Ministry of Natural Resources may post signs to limit certain kinds of travel or activity (including camping), as well as close forest access roads for reasons of public safety or environmental protection. Please contact the local MNR Office for more information about the Crown land in the area you hope to visit.

When camping on Crown land, all users are asked to undertake their activities in an ecologically sound and responsible manner, accepting the risks associated with their activities. Please remove all litter and enjoy and respect Ontario’s Crown land.
If you are interested in camping in an Ontario Provincial Park, please visit the Ontario Parks website for more information.

Residents of Canada

Residents of Canada may camp free of charge on Crown land for up to 21 days at any one site, except where posted otherwise.

Non-residents of Canada

If you are a non-resident of Canada, 18 years of age or older and wish to camp on Crown land north of the French and Mattawa rivers, a Crown Land Camping Permit is required, unless:

  •     You are a non-resident that is staying on a watercraft equipped for overnight accommodation, anchored on a Crown land water bed and not located within a regulated (green) zone or other signed prohibited area.
  •     You or your spouse owns property in Ontario - NOTE: access to regulated (green) zones remains prohibited.

Where Can You Get a Crown Land Camping Permit?

Non-resident Crown Land Camping Permits are available from numerous fishing and hunting license issuers and from Service Ontario centres in northern Ontario. The cost of a Non-resident Crown Land Camping Permit is approximately $10 per person per night. Members or persons in charge of a charitable or not-for profit organization may be eligible for exemptions to a Crown Land Camping Permit by applying in writing to the District Manager well in advance.
